Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month & Supporting Students on the Path to Graduation

At Indiana Digital Alternative School (INDAS), we are committed to providing an inclusive and supportive environment that helps students from all backgrounds achieve academic success and earn their diplomas. Hispanic Heritage Month, observed from September 15 to October 15, is a special time for us to honor the rich history and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans, while reinforcing the importance of embracing diversity in education. As we celebrate this month, we focus on helping all students, regardless of their ethnicity or heritage, stay on track to graduate and prepare for the workforce.

Why We Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

This began as a week-long celebration in 1968 and expanded to a month in 1988 to recognize the contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities in the United States. The chosen dates coincide with the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Chile.

At INDAS, this month gives us a valuable opportunity to:

1. Highlight the achievements of Hispanic and Latino communities.
2. Honor the diversity and heritage within our school community.
3. Help students understand the role diverse cultures play in shaping our world.

We believe that by acknowledging and celebrating these contributions, we inspire a sense of pride and belonging in our Hispanic students and foster a greater appreciation for diversity among all students.
